Another roadside diversion.
This time, we pulled off Route 2 just outside of Libby, Montana to see where all the kayakers were headed. After following a trail to the river, we listened to some kids debate whether to put their kayaks in at the Class 4 rapids just below the falls, or whether they should hike a bit further and get started in the relatively calmer water near the swinging bridge.
The swinging bridge is just what it sounds like -- a series of planks bolted to each other that sags in the middle and swings in the breeze, with drift fence attached to the rails to keep people from falling into the river.
Shawn and I took these photos of each other on the bridge from the river bank, after we discovered that it was a little scary to have two people on the bridge at the same time.
It's hard to tell, but I'm a tiny light-colored dot in the middle of the bridge in the top bridge photo. Shawn is much harder to spot in the bottom photo -- I was a lot farther down the trail when I snapped the shutter -- he blends in very well with the scenery!
