Shawn and I came to New York for my birthday this year. We cashed in Amtrak points for our ride on the Acela, and hotel points for a free weekend in the Intercontinental. Not a bad way to travel...
We got half-price tickets to see West Side Story - one of my all-time favorites - last night. Dinner was a pizza at John's in Times Square. I like the one on Bleecker Street better, but it satisfied my craving for New York Pizza.
Got up this morning and - after making sure that everything was okay with Chelsea Clinton's wedding about 50 miles north of us - set out in search of adventure.
First stop: the Limelight market. As you can see from the photos, Limelight used to be a church. I knew it as a club, back in the 80s. More recently, it's been converted to a fancy food/retail marketplace. We went immediately to the top level for our morning coffee, and then worked our way back down among the shops.
Next up was a stop at the Union Square Farmer's Market, where we ogled the beautiful produce and wished that we had some way to bring all the goodies we saw back home with us.
We ate lunch at the Brazilian Coffee House - another favorite - on the corner of Union Square. The weather backed off a bit, so temperatures were only in the 80s and the humidity was under control.
