2008 Presidential Green Chemistry Awards

I wouldn't say yes to visitors just four days after moving without a very good reason.

My brother-in-law Mitch Smith and his colleague Rob Maleczka won the 2008 Presidential Green Chemistry Award.

I'm not a fan of the Bush Administration, but I think they got this one right!

I couldn't begin to tell you what their research is about, but I'm so pleased that they've received this recognition. My sister Suzi is part of the Smith-Maleczka team and was also honored at the ceremony at the National Academy of Sciences.

Mitch's parents - Dottie & Milton - came from West Virginia, and his sister Dawn and her boys Alton & Ransom, flew in from Maine for the ceremony.

The pictures are courtesy of the EPA. Here's a link to the official website if you're curious.

My personal favorite picture is the one of Milton cheering for his Dad!

At Creig & Tonya's

So instead of moving this weekend, we flew to Tennessee for a wedding. We decided to stay one night with Creig & Tonya - we hadn't been to their house since they moved in. It gave us a chance to catch up with the rest of the Kimbro brothers.

It also gave Shawn a chance to teach Leah a thing or two about playing the banjo.

Twisters at the Bay Bridge

Shawn was out fishing this afternoon when things got rough and he decided to take cover at Hemingway's, a restaurant on Kent Island near the Bay Bridge. He snapped this photo of a funnel cloud while he was waiting for the storm to pass. I'm glad it never touched down - it would have made the new commute almost impossible!

It's Ours!

After a weekend delay to get all the paperwork in order -- they still spelled my name wrong on all the papers -- we closed on the house last night. We're now the proud owners of a 150+ year old house. I can't wait to see what else we find in the attic!
