Memorial Day Recap

I think I need a long weekend to recover from my long weekend!

We had a full house for Memorial Day -- Daniel, Tiffany and Ella flew in from Knoxville, and Cory, Jacob, and their friend Joel Rickard made the long drive up 81 from Morristown. Despite getting caught in some beach traffic, the boys made good time and were waiting for us -- out on the dock with their fishing poles in the water -- when we arrived from the airport.

On Saturday, we had a great turn out for our housewarming party. Ella, as expected, was VERY popular on the Maryland scene. The sandy beach and (relatively) warm water off our dock was a big hit with the kids -- I heard about a couple of jellyfish sightings, but no stings reported. Daniel was a great help as grillmaster. Unfortunately, Shawn and I were too busy being host & hostess that neither of us took any pictures. I'm hoping someone sends me some I can post.

Sunday, we took our new friend Sarah up on her offer of a behind-the-scenes tour of the Australia exhibit at the Baltimore Aquarium, where she works as a herpetologist. The exhibit did a great job showing the diversity -- from desert to tropics to ocean -- of the Australian climate. No koala bears, but a lot of really cool birds, lizards, crocodiles, snakes, and (of course)fish. It was a treat to go backstage to see how it all really works, not to mention the birds-eye view of "Australia." We wrapped up our day at the aquarium with a dolphin show. I've included a few pictures.

Monday was boat day, for us and about half the Annapolis area. The boys had a blast testing our new tow-along raft. Ella was not impressed with their acrobatics, however, and slept for most of the ride. Too much fun.

It's Tuesday, and everyone heads back to Tennessee. We're hoping they all come back soon!
