Oxford, MD
We decided to celebrate Father's Day with a boating adventure. We headed toward Oxford, Maryland - a town we'd seen signs for, but never been to - for brunch and sightseeing.
What we didn't realize when we made this plan is that Oxford is a SLEEPY little town with very few places to eat on a Sunday afternoon. After wandering the downtown streets and getting turned away every place we tried, we ended up getting some snacks from the local grocery store before heading back to Kent Narrows for dinner.
Oxford = very pretty town without much to do!!

Old Friends
Shawn took my old friend & law school classmate Tim Mellett and his boys Michael and Ryan fishing today. I missed the fun on the boat - opting instead to get my hair cut and meet a friend for lunch in the city.
I didn't completely miss out: they brought me home a mess of perch for dinner.
The highlight of the day for the boys, I'm told, was an after-dinner game of whiffleball, complete with ghost runners and improvised rules.

A Sentiment My Husband Can Relate To
In The Museum of Texas History
Tower Of The Americas
What is it about a World's Fair that causes the organizers to build a tower?
In any case, we were thrilled to duck into the Tower of the Americas to get out of the blistering heat. We rode the glass elevator up to the lounge for free and cooled our heels, literally, with a 360 view of the Texas landscape.
Sadly, our server was as clueless as we were about what we were looking at, so we're still not sure what towns we were seeing in the distance!

Remember The Alamo
Of course, if you want to see San Antonio's most famous attraction - the shrine to Texas independence - you have to find your way out of the River Walk maze. I don't know why I was surprised to find the Alamo sitting on a lush green yard, surrounded on all sides by the city. I guess I wanted it to be in the middle of a dusty desert, the last outpost in the new world.
That being said, it's quite a sight to see.

San Antonio
Shawn has a conference in San Antonio this week, so I tagged along to see the sights.
It took us a minute to get oriented to the River Walk, but we quickly realized that it's a big loop around downtown. Very well manicured, beautifully landscaped, and laid out a level below the surface streets along the San Antonio River in such a way that tourists and conventioneers never have to leave. The Army Corps earned their pay on this project!
Needless to say, we found plenty of places to stop as we wandered.

Cory's Whopper
Cory caught this Black Drum a little north of the Bay Bridge.
Cory's personal best is almost as tall as he is. Best guess is that it weighed 75 pounds, maybe more.
Shawn writes about the battle to land this monster on his website.
