Field Trip to the Udvar-Hazy Annex
Every time the kids fly into Dulles, we see the signs for the Udvar-Hazy annex to the Air & Space Museum. It was built to house the overflow from the most popular museum on the Mall.
We always talk about going, but it's never convenient: their flights are either too early or too late. Because the museum is 70 miles from our house, we can always come up with something else to do.
Not today.
We loaded up the minivan and set out in search of aviation history.
Daniel spent a good portion of the drive listing his priorities and warning that we would all be on Ella duty so he could savor the sights he knows so well from thousands of hours watching the Military History channel.
Ella got to "fly" a Cessna 150 that was on display for kids, while all her male relatives "flew" a fighter jet simulator. I'm pretty sure she had more fun for a LOT less money!
I had to throw in a shot of the Mars Rover, since a Cornell scientist is the lead investigator on that project.
