Since starting work at GW, Shawn hasn't had as much time to fish. He makes up for it on the weekends!

Happy Belated Birthday, Daniel!

Daniel's been in Europe for the last month on tour with the Lovell Sisters. He missed his birthday (not to mention his family), so we're making up for lost time.

Tiffany, Ella, and Evie are visiting on Tiffany's spring break. We caught up with Daniel at the Birchmere tonight, when the Lovells opened for Doc Watson. Birthday cake and fishing were saved for after the show.

Believe it or not, he crawled up there all by himself.

Curtis Seals

Janice called today looking for Shawn. He left his phone home, maybe on purpose, because he didn't want to hear bad news.

We learned Curtis passed away this morning.

He and Shawn have been best friend since before either of them can remember - their mothers were best friends, so they've always been a part of each other's life.

Even before I met Shawn, I knew about Shawn & Curt from the old Trailzzone website. They hiked every trail in this part of the Smokies and posted the pictures and stories to prove it.

When we got engaged, there never was any doubt - even though he has three brothers and three sons - that Shawn would ask Curt to be his best man.

A few months ago, when we knew that he wouldn't get better, Curtis asked Shawn to give the eulogy at his funeral. He asked him to play some bluegrass, so people will "remember me like I am."

For Daniel's birthday card this year, I scanned a drawing that he made in elementary school to illustrate how his Dad shows he cares. Since Shawn's taking him fishing when he gets back from Sweden, I think this is a very appropriate tribute!
